Relationships

Author admin    Category Healthy Living     Tags

Relationships play an important role in most people’s lives. There are many different kinds of relationships and the success or failure of a relationship can have serious implications for your happiness and wellbeing. Examples of important relationships include relationships with partners, husbands or wives, relationships with friends, relationships with family relationships and relationships with work colleagues.

Couples

Relationships can make or break people. There is no better feeling in the world than spending time and forming a strong relationship with somebody that you are very fond of. However, not all relationships have a happy ending and many people suffer stress and distress as a result of their relationship with their partner. Relationship experts have different approaches when it comes to giving advice but the general consensus seems to be that successful relationships depend on trust, common moral and family values, common interests and a mutual desire to be together.

The nature of relationships between couples has changed in recent years. Women have become more equal and a large proportion of women now have a full-time job, divorce has become more widely accepted and fewer couples are getting married, choosing instead to cohabit.

Relationships are often challenging. Not many people have a relationship that doesn’t have its downs as well as its ups but this does not mean that a relationship does not work. Relationship experts offer the following advice to keep your relationship on track:

  • make time for each other
  • be honest and open; if there is a problem, tackle it head-on but take care to be sensitive and tactful
  • spend time together doing things that you enjoy
  • give each other space
  • try not to hold grudges
  • talk to each other; if you have worries or concerns do not expect your partner to read your mind, talk to them instead and this may help you to resolve the issue
  • be spontaneous

Family life

Family life is really important but it can be difficult to spend quality time together as people’s lifestyles demand that they spend long hours working and this can limit the time available for family bonding. Studies show that children who grow up in a stable, happy family environment are more likely to be successful in the future and enjoy happy stable relationships with their partners. Try to make time for your family; if you have been working more than usual, take time off and devote your time to your partner and your children; get involved in fun activities, go away or simply spend time together at home.

Relationships at work

Your relationships at work can make the difference between whether you enjoy work or you dread the thought of the start of the new working week. If you get on with the people around you, you are more likely to enjoy your work and this may improve your performance at work. If you do not get on with the people around you or you feel that your efforts are not recognised, this can affect the way you feel at work and it may also have a negative impact on your self-esteem. If you are having problems with colleagues at work, try to talk to the appropriate people and resolve the problem; if you leave it, it will probably get worse.

Entertainment

Author admin    Category Healthy Living     Tags

Entertainment is an umbrella term, which is used to describe many different activities and methods that are used to entertain people. Entertainment may involve many different activities, from going to the theatre to going to a concert or watching a film at home. Entertainment is designed to provide an enjoyable distraction to everyday life.

Modern entertainment

Entertainment is increasingly passive, meaning that people take a back seat and let somebody else entertain them. The most popular forms of entertainment include:

  • watching films, either at home or at the cinema
  • watching plays or shows
  • going to concerts
  • watching television
  • watching comedy – either watching a stand-up show or a funny programme or film
  • listening to music
  • playing games
  • watching sports

More active forms of entertainment, such as playing sports, are usually regarded as recreational activities or hobbies, although some people would class them as form of entertainment. Modern entertainment revolves around celebrity; celebrity culture has become increasingly prevalent over the last decade and many people now follow celebrities and their lifestyles on television, in the press and on social media websites.

Why is entertainment important?

Entertainment is important to most people because they like to have time out from work and enjoy themselves, especially in the evenings after a long day at work. Entertainment can help to reduce stress and anxiety and create a more positive mood. Many people find they are in a much better mood when they can wind down and relax in front of a film or the television in the evenings, rather than having to work late.

In many cases, entertainment also brings people together. You can spend time with family and friends and enjoy a film, go to a football match or catch a musical and the aim of the game is to have as much fun as possible. Entertainment has become an increasingly integral part of the modern lifestyle, as people spend longer at work and suffer from work-related stress. Entertainment provides an enjoyable diversion to the routine of daily life.

How successful is gastric band surgery in terms of sustained weight loss?

Weight loss surgery, known as bariatric surgery, can be highly effective for some people, but it is not recommended for everyone. In order for weight loss surgery to work, individuals must commit to a long-term lifestyle change, which means that they will eat a balanced diet and take steps to living healthily.

Gastric band surgery

There has been a great deal of media attention on gastric bands, for which more information can be found on www.gastricbands.co.uk and this has encouraged some people to think of it as an immediate solution, which is much easier than dieting and exercising. In reality, gastric band surgery is a major procedure, which carries dangers and should only be carried out if people have tried to shed the pounds naturally without any success.

Gastric band surgery involves shrinking the stomach, by placing a band over the top of the stomach; as a consequence you will feel full after consumption of a smaller quantity of food. Gastric band surgery requires a complete change of lifestyle and a commitment to healthy eating; it is not as simple as eating a lot and still losing weight because you have a band fitted. If you have a gastric band, you will not be able to eat large meals and you will have to be careful about what you eat.

Gastric band surgery is not appropriate for people who are not overweight; this procedure is not appropriate for persons who simply want to shift a few pounds; it is recommended for persons who have a BMI (body mass index) of over 40 or a BMI of over 35 in addition to a health condition related to your weight, for example diabetes.

Weight loss

If you have had a gastric band fitted, you should expect to lose weight gradually; it is unusual for people to lose huge sums of weight in the first few weeks. As a general rule, you should aim for a loss of 1-3 lbs per week until you arrive at a healthy, table weight. Weight loss is faster with gastric bypass surgery because the stomach absorbs fewer calories.

Style, beauty and fashion are more popular than ever before. Everywhere you go you see billboards, adverts, glossy images and photo campaigns, all promoting the latest trends and must-have outfits and accessories.

British style

Style has become synonymous with Great Britain. London is one of the world’s fashion capitals and British men and women have an excellent reputation for style across the globe. British designers have also become increasingly popular, with labels such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, Burberry and Vivienne Westwood all stealing the limelight at fashion events all over the world. The Royal wedding has also put Britain firmly on the map, with millions of people from hundreds of different countries tuning in to catch a glimpse of Kate Middleton’s dress, which was designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen.

The British high street is also widely regarded as the best in the world. The high street boasts a huge range of shops and a variety of different styles, from vintage and Boho to romantic and rock. Style tends to change according to where you are in the UK; Northern cities have an eclectic, laid-back, vintage vibe, while cities in the South have a more polished look.

Style and lifestyle

Style is really important for a lot of people. If you love the outfit you’re wearing and you’re happy with the overall appearance, you are more likely to feel confident and this can make a difference in both your social and professional lives. Many people are committed to keeping their finger on the fashion button and they spend hours trawling through the pages of fashion magazines and reading style blogs online. Style and fashion have become integral parts of the modern lifestyle. There is more focus on beauty and fashion than ever before and fashion is more accessible, as high street chains make affordable copies of designer pieces.

Having a sense of style is important for many people. This has become especially important since the rise of celebrity culture, as we are bombarded with images of celebrity style icons and this makes people want to make more effort with their own individual appearance. The most well-known modern style icons include Kate Moss, Victoria Beckham, Elle McPherson, Agnes Deyn, Blake Lively and Daisy Lowe.
